Yesterday was the first time I randomly saw someone on the street wearing a Manila Montet t shirt.

Of course I’ve noticed a few fans wearing Manila Montet stuff before, but that was mostly at Rizal Memorial or more recently at BGC. Seeing it in Manila itself felt different, a first for me.

I like to notice football jerseys when I see them, and here in the Philippines, pro clubs have very few fans actually wearing their gear. The club I’ve seen the most jerseys for is Kaya, but even that is rare. I once saw a guy in Maharlika gear, but it was a polo not a jersey or t shirt, so maybe he was staff.

There’s a lot that can be done here. Manila Montet actually sells a lot of jerseys, at least in the context of Philippine football, but a few fans have noticed their Shopee account has been down for a few days now. Hopefully that gets fixed soon, because the club’s official reply was basically “we’re working on it with Shopee” without much detail.

Meanwhile, it’s kind of sad to think about clubs like Manila Diggers. Their results are good, really strong on the field, but they’re almost invisible to fans. Super performances but hardly anyone wearing their jerseys or showing up for games. At least for now. ⚽🇵🇭
